WSET Level 3 Award in Wines

This challenging and rewarding course is for individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wine and offers a detailed understanding of grape growing and winemaking. Throughout the course you will taste over 70 different wines. On successful completion, you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. You will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and you will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo and call yourself a wine expert.

Some study before the exam and revision throughout will be required, and you must have passed the WSET Level 2 Wine Course or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge to begin the course.

Programme Outline

The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines course programme is as follows:

Unit 1 – Wines of the World

  • Production of Wine (location, viticulture, vinification, maturation and bottling, labelling regulations)
  • France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Central and South Eastern Europe
    South Africa, Australia and New Zealand
  • North and South America
  • Sparkling wines
  • Fortified wines
  • Information and advice for customers and staff
  • This unit is evaluated by a multiple choice paper of 50 questions and a question paper requiring short written answers

Unit 2 – Tasting and Evaluating Wines of the World

  • WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting – how to taste wines and evaluate the quality, style and price
  • This unit is assessed by a blind tasting paper of two wines

The price includes wine samples, study guide, tuition & exam.

FAQs

Do I need to do Level 2 before Level 3?

Yes, this is the requirement for most people. You will need the knowledge you have acquired by studying Level 2 to progress successfully to Level 3. However, on rare occasions there can sometimes be exceptions, depending on your experience. Please contact Wineology, if you feel his may be the case.

How soon will I get my results?

For Level 3 the results should be issued by WSET within 40 working days of them receiving your exam papers.

Will I get my certificate and pin at the end of the course?

No, once you have completed your course your examination papers will be sent to WSET. WSET should send Wineology your pins and certificates within 50 working days from when they receive it. Wineology will then send the certificates and pins directly to you.

Does the certification expire?

No, once you have the qualification, you have it for life!

Is this qualification recognised outside the UK?

Yes, all 9 WSET qualifications are globally recognised. So, if you’re planning on working abroad in the wine or hospitality industry, your WSET qualification will be recognised and will add gravitas to your CV!

Is there a Level 4 in Wines?

Yes there is. It’s known as the WSET Diploma in Wines. Once you have completed and passed your Level 3 in Wine, we can advise you on where to take your Diploma.

Can my employer pay for my course?

Yes, many employers sponsor their staff through WSET training. This is a great way to support career development and encourage staff retention.
